CONTEXT & BACKGROUND
Congestion in Dhaka costs Bangladesh an estimated US$3 billion or more every year, with average vehicle speeds in the core city falling below 7 km/h at peak hours (World Bank; BUET Accident Research Institute studies). Logistics inefficiency compounds the loss: Bangladesh ranked 88th of 139 economies on the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index 2023, and high logistics costs erode export competitiveness at precisely the moment of LDC graduation. Artificial intelligence offers a practical way out — AI-driven signal and traffic management, GPS-based fleet and cargo tracking, and data-sharing across ports, corridors and last-mile delivery can recover productivity without waiting decades for new physical infrastructure.
SYNOPSIS
Transport is a productivity platform that shapes trade, urban life and national competitiveness. This plenary focuses on how artificial intelligence and real-time data can solve Bangladesh's two most stubborn mobility problems: urban traffic and the end-to-end tracking of transport and logistics. It brings together government agencies, port and traffic authorities, logistics operators, automotive and mobility companies, researchers and investors to identify deployment-ready solutions for intelligent traffic management, supply-chain visibility, freight efficiency and low-emission transport — with an emphasis on investable operating models and pathways from pilot to scale.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SESSION
Identify how AI-based traffic management, digital tracking of transport and logistics, and intelligent mobility infrastructure can raise productivity, trade competitiveness and urban quality of life — and define concrete pathways for pilots, investment and adoption.
